The research centres and their sponsors

The TAM-bMOOC Research Project involves two research centers which are both funded by the Foundation of Science & Technology (FCT) in Portugal. Additionally, the Project also counts on collaboration from the Ministry of Education, the Portuguese English Teachers’ Association, and a Digital Design Studio (ActiveMedia).  Information about these entities follows:

CETAPS

The Centre for English Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies (CETAPS) is jointly hosted by Nova University of Lisbon and University of Porto.  It is a dynamic research unit promoting research and activities in the field of English studies with high national and international reach. The TAM-bMOOC project is associated with the Research Area TEALS (Translation, Teacher Education and Applied Languages Studies) and coordinated through the ‘Teacher education and curriculum studies in second-language education’ Research Strand by Dr Sandie Mourão who is based in Lisbon.

The Distance Education and eLearning Laboratory (LE@D) is a research unit dedicated to research in Education, specializing in Distance Education and hosted by Universidade Aberta. Its priority goal is to innovate and lead research in Open and Distance Education in the digital society. LE@D develops research and knowledge transfer in three strategic areas: Theories and Practices in Open and Distance Education; Education and Sustainability; Educational Problems in Post-digital

Direcção Geral de Educação

The Direção Geral de Educação (DGE) at the Ministry of Education is a centralized administration service of the State with administrative autonomy. It is responsible for implementing policies relating to the pedagogical and didactic components of early childhood education, primary and secondary education and extra-curricular activities. It provides technical support for their formulation, focusing, above all, on the areas of curriculum development, teaching and assessment instruments and educational support.

APPI is the Portuguese Association of Teachers of English. It is a non-profit organisation committed to improving English language teaching in Portugal since 1986. APPIforma, APPI’s Teacher Training Centre, is accredited and validated by the Portuguese Ministry of Education, and organizes, plans and runs short-term training events and teacher training courses, both face-to-face and online for teachers of English from pre-primary to secondary education in mainland Portugal, the Islands of Madeira and Azores as well as in Portuguese speaking countries on the African Continent.
